Why do you do this?

Because Christmas is our favorite holiday and when we do this it not only makes us enjoy the season more but the people that get to watch the show also.

How many lights do you have?

We currently have about 30,000 lights.  For 2008 we have about the same amount of lights but more channels so that some of our lights have the option to do more things.

Do you have your own radio station?  How can I hear the music on my radio?

We have a Ramsey 25b FM transmitter set to 106.1 FM so you are able to enjoy the music directly to your radio.

Who talks in between the songs for your display?

My 16 year old Daughter narrates in between all the songs asking people not to block the neighbor's driveways and giving you information about the lights and ect....

How do you control the lights?

Everything is controlled with software and hardware from Light-O-Rama. Our display uses 80 different channels, which allows us to control almost every element in our display between Red, White, Green and Blue.  We have over three quarters of a mile plus of extension cords.

How much power is used to control your lights?

This is the first year that we will have the computer animated lights but for our static display in previous years our bill usually went up about $30.00 but we will find out the difference this year with the animated display and added lights.  We just got our bill on 12/21/07 and it went up a little over $30.00 since the last bill.  We are using 10 15 amp circuits.

What do the people in your neighborhood think?

They didn't know because we were able to keep it a secret for about a year however now they know and they seem to love it.  Our one neighbor said that our cars blocked the garage door Muriel and we needed to park them on the far side of his driveway.  We thought that was so cool.

How long does it take to program one song?

It takes about 5 hours or longer per minute.  It all depends on how detailed the song is and how many channels you have.  The more channels you have the longer the programming takes.  We currently have 80 Channels but next year we hope to have at least 112 and possibly more.

Was it expensive to start doing the animated lighting?

We had most of the lights from last year however this year we added some LED lights and we added many different colors.  If you purchase computer-animated boxes unassembled from LOR then the prices of the boxes are cheaper.  If you purchase them around April or so LOR usually has a sale and you can get them even cheaper then any other time of year.  The most expensive part for us was getting the rest of the lights we needed and purchasing the boxes fully completed.  We bought some of the lights at the end of last season.

Do you have both some LED lights and some incandescent lights?

Yes we have some of both styles of lights.  We are slowly working on switching to all LED lights but due to the availability the LED lights are harder to find in all the styles we need.
